It won’t be long before Sydney finally retires from UberEats and Netflix for a well-deserved night out. Many of our favourite venues are gearing up for ‘Freedom Day’ after more than three months of closing their doors as a result of COVID. Right in time for summer, many of us will be celebrating the reopening of our city, day drinking at some of Sydney’s best outdoor spots. Fortunately, there are many outdoor bars and pubs in Sydney that are very keen to have us back.
The best thing about outdoor bars and outdoor pubs in Sydney on Freedom Day is being able to stand and walk around while having a drink as opposed to just being seated indoors. As we enter the next phase of restrictions easing, not all outdoor bars and outdoor pubs in Sydney will be open for business at the same time.
We’ve done some digging around and have compiled a list of fun outdoor bars and pubs in Sydney that you can check out on or after Freedom Day (October 11th). These venues will also allow walk-ins so long as they’re not fully booked out. These venues are not ordered or ranked in any particular way. Enjoy!
1. Coogee Bay Hotel
Great spot, great vibes, no shortage of outdoor space for walk-ins. Coogee Bay Hotel has recently converted its private conference room into a bookable public space, perfect for large groups. Doors open on October 11th. If you want to guarantee an outdoor spot, they’ve recently allocated bookable spots in their garden area.
2. Golden Sheaf
A classic known by many, this venue has a large outdoor space that can cater for big groups and walk-ins. Doors open October 11th! Popular venue, with lots going on, be sure to keep up with what’s on.
3. Albion Hotel
If you’re out in Sydney’s west and are looking for a vibe, one of the best is Albion Hotel, Parramatta. Lot’s of outdoor space, perfect for walk-ins. Doors open from October 11th. They have some great happy hour deals, be sure to check them out.
4. The Oaks
Beautiful spot in Neutral Bay. Spots available for walk-ins at Taffy’s sports bar. The Oaks opens its doors on October 11th. There’s great seating throughout the venue, here’s where you can book a table. Keep an eye out for weekly deals, from October 11th there will be $7 Beer Farm schooners all week, plus $20 steak every Monday night.
5. Hotel Ravesis
Overlooking Australia's most iconic beach, Hotel Ravesis is a classic in Sydney's east. Doors open October 11th. They're accepting walk-ins and allow drinking and standing outdoors. Happy Hour will be running Mon-Fri 4-6pm, so get plenty of $5 beer and $6 wine into you while it's on. Keep an eye out for other deals here.
6. Cruise Bar
Another great outdoor bar Sydney is offering overlooks Sydney Opera House and has lots of outdoor space, including a rooftop! Great for walk-ins. Doors open Wednesday October 13th. Be sure you guarantee a spot by making a booking.
7. Bank Hotel
If you’re from the Inner West and looking for crisp craft beer, make sure you head out to Bank Hotel. Doors open October 11th and staff are very welcome to walk-ins! Spots may fill out quickly, so be sure by making a booking.
8. Watsons Bay Hotel
Who can get sick of drinking with good vibes and a view? There’s no shortage of that at Watsons Bay. A top rated outdoor pub Sydney has on offer. Opening their doors from October 18th, be sure to reserve your spot to guarantee a spot with a mint view of Sydney Harbour.
9. Opera Bar
Rated as one of the best outdoor bars Sydney CBD has to offer, Opera Bar is huge and loves walk-ins. Be sure to hit it up if you’re nearby. Opera Bar will open its doors from Wednesday October 13th. If you’re looking for seating, here’s where you can reserve a spot.
10. Vic On The Park
Beers or Basketball? Why not enjoy both at Vic On The Park. A unique and fun outdoor pub Sydney has in store for you on Freedom Day. Doors open on October 11th. No shortage of outdoor space here, perfect for walk-ins. Lots going on weekly, you can keep up with them here.
